The German Offshore Spaceport Alliance (GOSA) is a consortium of companies, research institutions, and authorities working together to develop offshore launch facilities for small satellites in the German North Sea. The consortium is based in Bremen, Germany.
GOSA was established in 2020 and is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI). The goal of GOSA is to create a new market for launching small satellites by offering a cost-effective and flexible alternative to traditional launch facilities on land. The offshore launch facilities being developed by GOSA will be located in the German Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the North Sea, approximately 100 kilometers off the coast of Germany.
GOSA is made up of a diverse group of partners, including the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the Bremen Chamber of Commerce, and the cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven. The consortium is working to develop and demonstrate the technical, logistical, and regulatory aspects of offshore launch operations, with the goal of launching the first small satellite from an offshore platform by 2025.
